Professor Margreth Tadie

Associate Professor at Stellenbosch University

Professor Margreth Tadie is an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at Stellenbosch University and Chair of the ARM-funded Research Chair in Geometallurgy. She holds a PhD in Mineral Processing from the University of Cape Town. Her research examines how mineral and ore characteristics influence processing performance, environmental outcomes and value creation across the mining value chain. Spanning geometallurgical modelling, critical minerals, tailings reprocessing and the environmental impacts of mining, her work translates scientific knowledge into practical insights for industry. Prof Tadie has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed journal and conference publications and has contributed to the graduation of over 36 master’s and doctoral students.

She is recognised for building interdisciplinary partnerships that connect research with industry priorities and align international expertise with African challenges. Central to her work is the development of people, partnerships and research capability. She believes that Africa’s critical-minerals future will be shaped not only by what lies beneath the ground, but by the knowledge, innovation and talent required to unlock its value responsibly.
