Mopeli Khama holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where his research focused on developing computationally efficient CFD-hybrid models for heterogeneous systems. During his MSc studies at the University of Cape Town, he worked on population balance modelling of bubble column reactors. His current research centres on the development and analysis of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models for gas-solid pre-reduction processes, aimed at supporting the design and optimization of these systems. These models contribute to decarbonization initiatives in metal production. In addition, his work involves developing reduced-order models intended for use as soft sensors in future steelmaking technologies.
