Nominations for the appointment of individuals to serve as members of the Mintek Board
The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) is inviting nominations for the appointment of highly skilled and distinguished individuals to serve as members of the Board of the Council for Mineral Technology (Mintek).
Mintek, established in terms of the Mineral Technology Act,1989 (Act No. 30 of 1989), is a global leader in mineral and metallurgical innovation. The organisation serves the national interest by conducting research, development, and technology transfer to promote mineral technology and foster the establishment and expansion of industries in the minerals sector.
Nominations are invited from candidates to serve as members of the Mintek Board with effect from 1 June 2026. In accordance with section 6(5) of the Mineral Technology Act, the members of the Board including the Chairperson must have achieved distinction in science, engineering, technology, or the mining industry, or possess special knowledge or experience relevant to Mintek's functions. The Act provides that a member of the Board holds office for a period not exceeding three years but shall be eligible for reappointment. Candidates must strictly be South African citizens or holders of permits as permanent residents in the Republic who are not disqualified to serve as directors of companies.
Interested candidates possessing the following skills are encouraged to submit their applications:
A relevant postgraduate degree or equivalent qualification.
10 to 15 years of experience in a senior leadership or director position, preferably within the minerals, mining, science, engineering, and technology sectors.
Experience in Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) management and leadership.
Dynamic leadership qualities with a proven track record as a Non-Executive Director in large, complex science-related organisations.
