Welcome to Mintek

Mintek Walks the Talk for Wellness and Unity!

Mintek showed up in stride and spirit at this year’s #702WalkTheTalk, one of South Africa’s most vibrant wellness events! With walking shoes on and smiles all around, employees joined thousands of South Africans to champion healthy living, unity, and active lifestyles.

From the symbolic starting point at Freedom Park to the historic Union Buildings in Tshwane, the atmosphere was electric with purpose and pride. Whether tackling 4km, 6.7km, or 8km, Mintek participants were united in one goal: walking for wellness. Leading the charge was Sr Faith Motaung, Mintek’s champion for employee wellness, who organised the team with infectious energy and passion.

“At Mintek, health isn’t a once-off event; it’s a lifestyle. The fun walk is just one of the ways we keep our employees active and motivated. We also conduct regular health programmes like pulmonary screenings, audiometry, and biological monitoring for elements like uranium and nickel to ensure long-term safety and wellbeing,” Sr Motaung said.

In honour of Mandela Month, Phuti Moichela, Mintek’s Head of Human Resources, took on the 6.7km walk, symbolising the 67 years Mandela dedicated to public service.

“Mandela said, ‘It always seems impossible until it’s done.’ That kept me going. The walk tested my endurance, but I made it! I’m so proud to be part of an organisation that invests in our health beyond the workplace,” said a proud Moichela, crossing the finish line.

For Tapiwa Kesha from the Biometallurgy division, this was a walk to remember. Taking part in her first #702WalkTheTalk, she completed the 4km route with purpose and passion.

“At first, it felt like a mountain. But once we hit the halfway mark, the energy, the unity, and the joy made every step worth it,” said a beaming Kesha.

The event wasn’t just about fitness; it was about solidarity, joy, and showing that wellness can be a powerful force for good.
