Mintek ready for an action-packed Mining Indaba
Mintek, South Africa's mineral research council, is poised to play a pivotal role at the 2024 Mining Indaba, an event scheduled from 5-8 February 2024 in Cape Town. Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the Mining Indaba, this occasion is particularly significant as it aligns with Mintek's 90th anniversary, underscoring the organisation's enduring contributions to the mining industry.
Under the theme, "Embracing the Power of Positive Disruption: A Bold New Future for African Mining," the Indaba serves as a critical platform for discussions and deal-making within the African mining sector. Recognising the strategic importance of this event, Mintek will introduce its Mintek@90 programme, commemorating nine decades of sustained contributions to the industry.
Dr Molefi Motuku, Mintek's CEO, will be a key participant in the Ministerial and CEO roundtable, addressing critical topics such as Critical Minerals, Mineral Rights, and Exploration opportunities and challenges in 2024.
Prof Indresan Govender, Mintek's Group Executive for Mineral Processing and Characterisation, will share insights into the role of academia and research and development organisations in keeping pace with technological progress in the mining sector.
Mariekie Gericke, Mintek's Group Executive for Extractive Metallurgy, will contribute to the Africa Mining Media Engagement event, focusing on South Africa's Investment Landscape, hosted by Brand SA. Dr Maje Phasha, Mintek's Chief Scientist, will shed light on innovative technologies and groundbreaking research aimed at enhancing production and processing of minerals.
Anne Mufamadi, Head of Artisanal Small-Scale Mining, will facilitate the Women in Mining Brunch organised by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, reflecting Mintek's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Dr Elmar Muller, Executive Manager of Hydrometallurgy at Mintek, will share expertise on copper, nickel, and cobalt, contributing valuable insights to discussions on sustainable mining practices.
