Mintek Launches Mintek Pulse to Reconnect 90 Years of Talent and Innovation
Mintek has officially launched Mintek Pulse, a dedicated alumni programme designed to reconnect, recognise, and celebrate the scientists, engineers, researchers, graduates, and professionals who have contributed to the organisation’s proud legacy of mineral and metallurgical innovation over the past 91 years.
Established in 1934, Mintek has played a central role in shaping South Africa’s minerals industry and supporting industrial development across the continent and beyond. Over nine decades, the organisation has driven innovation in mineral processing, extractive metallurgy, advanced materials, and related technologies, contributing to beneficiation, industrial competitiveness, skills development, and evidence based policy support. The impact of this work is reflected not only in technologies and processes, but in the people who have passed through Mintek and gone on to lead, influence, and innovate across industry, academia, government, and global research institutions.
Announcing the initiative, Mintek Chief Executive Officer Dr Molefi Motuku said Mintek Pulse is both a celebration of this 91 year heritage and a strategic investment in the future of the minerals sector.
“Mintek Pulse reflects our belief that Mintek’s greatest asset has always been its people,” said Dr Motuku. “For 90 years, Mintek has been at the forefront of scientific and technological advancement in minerals and metallurgy. Mintek Pulse serves as the official alumni platform for all former Mintek staff, associates, interns, and collaborators. Members will have access to exclusive alumni events, regular updates on Mintek’s work and strategic priorities, professional networking opportunities, and platforms for collaboration. The programme also aims to foster mentorship, facilitate knowledge exchange, and enable joint research and advisory initiatives that support sustainable growth and innovation within the minerals and metallurgical sectors.
The initiative is expected to deliver tangible benefits beyond the Mintek community.
