The Mining, Materials, and Automation cluster conducts research and provides a range of services in mining, beneficiation, process control and automation, and post-mining.
The Advanced Materials Division focuses on the beneficiation of minerals and conducts research in nanotechnology for health and water. The Division also looks at developing new materials and offers advanced material testing services to the industry. The Measurement and Control Division develops measuring instruments that yield significant improvements in recovery and reductions in reagent and energy usage for mineral processing plants and smelters. The Division also develops specific advanced process control solutions implemented on Mintek’s trademarked process control platform, StarCS. The Mining and Mineral Economics Division provides market insights and techno-economic analysis related to mineral commodity extraction, processing, use, recycling, and disposal. The Division is also responsible for the project management of the Mine Closure and Rehabilitation programme.
