Analytical Chemistry
The Analytical Chemistry Division performs mineral composition (elemental analysis) of geological and metallurgical ores using advanced analytical techniques. The Division has been operating continuously under ISO 17025 accreditation for over 25 years. It is at the forefront of advanced analysis of precious and base metals using robust advanced methods such as fire assay, fusion, wet chemistry, and acid digestion for sample preparation. The Divison uses advanced techniques such as inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS), X-ray fluorescence, and atomic absorption (AA), among others, for sample analysis. Other advanced methods include the determination of sulphur, carbon, and phosphorus by combustion methods.
The Division manufactures and sells certified reference materials also known as South African Reference materials (SARM). The reference materials are distributed globally for routine analysis and research purposes, and feature in many publications' experimental work, making the Division an important global provider of certified reference materials.
With our regular participation in proficiency testing schemes and strong competence in various areas of expertise, our clients are always assured of high-quality and reliable results.
