Prof. Indresan Govender was appointed as Group Executive Mineral Processing and Characterisation at Mintek in June 2021. With over 20 years of R&D experience, he joined the organisation with a strong track record that spans the full value chain of mineral processing research. Prof. Govender graduated with a PhD from the University of Cape Town (UCT) where he worked for 15 years in Physics and Engineering. He then joined the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) as a Professor of Particle Technology and Mineral Processing.
Prof. Govender maintains an active research relationship with the Centre for Minerals Processing at UCT and the Department of Chemical Engineering at UKZN through his concurrent appointments as an honorary Professor. On the international front, Prof. Govender has a wide network of research collaborators spanning many of the leading global universities. His research specialisation explores complex granular flows with in-situ nuclear imaging measurements via bi-planar X-rays and Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT), continuum formulations of industrial flows, and numerical modelling via the Discrete Element Method (DEM) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Prof. Govender endeavours to foster a culture of research-led innovation within the minerals processing sector by complimenting existing strategies with mechanistic insights.
